STATEMENT OF EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
FOR KANAWHA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

Kanawha Christian School is maintained for the purpose of educating children in the knowledge of God's world.  The purpose of this school is to help students understand the relationship of God's general revelation in creation to God's special revelation, the Bible.  Furthermore, an equally important purpose of the school is to equip students to live a life of Christian service to God in his/her home, church, community, country, and in the world.

Each child is a distinctively created personality, created in the image of God, but distorted by sin.  The purpose of the Christian school is to nurture the restored image of God in the child who needs to be understood, respected, loved, and guided; to develop his skills, talents, and capabilities to the fullest; and to give a feeling of security as a responsible citizen of the Kingdom of God and our society.

The curriculum is essential to the process of education.  The curriculum must be flexible and in harmony with the teachings of Holy Scripture.  The curriculum must be based upon the demonstrated needs of the individual in our changing world.

OBJECTIVES

1. To educate children as citizens of the Kingdom of God intellectually, morally, physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

2. To prepare the students to fulfill their principle task in life, namely, to glorify  God.

3. To create in the students respect and appreciation for the sacred, the beautiful, and the worthwhile things in life.

4. To develop this school to be a living community whereby students and teachers demonstrate that the Kingdom of God comes first in their lives.

5. To so teach that the Holy Bible becomes meaningful to the student in the time in which he lives.

6. To promote and perpetuate by precept and practice our country's democratic ideals so that each student may develop the abilities and characteristics essential to effective Christian living in our democratic society.

7. To meet those standards of the state that are applicable to Christian elementary schools.
